You'll find Poinsett State Park in a narrow hilly region of Sumter County known as the "High Hills of Santee," a place where the Midlands meet the coastal plain. Here you'll notice unique and diverse landscapes as well as a wide variety of flora and fauna.

Established by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930s, this 1,000-acre state park provides the perfect place to escape into and immerse yourself in nature. And with a 10-acre lake, you can soak your cares and worries away as you swim and relax.

Throughout the park, you'll find nearly 26 miles of trails that are perfect for hiking or mountain biking. If you enjoy camping, there are 50 campsites as well as five cabins that were built by the Civilain Conservation Corps.

But the centerpiece of Poinsett State Park is its lake. At 10 acres, Levi Mill Lake is a picture-perfect slice of heaven.

While you can rent a stand-up paddleboard, kayak, canoe, or pedal boat, you can also fish or swim on this lovely lake.

Swimming is available at the park between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Just keep in mind that there is no lifeguard on duty so swimming is at your own risk.

Spending time on the sandy beach and then getting in that water is just the perfect way to relax, rejuvenate, and let the stresses of life melt away.
