Austin has no shortage of interesting places to spend the night. But there is something deeply rewarding about spending a weekend away in one of the city’s best-known neighborhoods. Just two blocks from South Congress Avenue, this private Craftsman bungalow Airbnb gives guests their own little corner of Austin while keeping some of the city’s best shopping, dining, and entertainment just a stone's throw away.

The one-bedroom bungalow sits in one of Austin’s most popular zip codes, near the neighborhood of Bouldin Creek, an area known for its mix of older homes, beloved local businesses, and easy access to the action along South Congress.

From the house, guests are also just one block from South First Street, making it possible to leave the car parked at the home and explore much of the neighborhood on foot or by bike.

Inside, the 800-square-foot home has plenty of big personality. Rather than feeling like a generic vacation rental (one of my personal pet peeves), this bungalow is instead filled with colorfully distinctive design details and artistic touches that make it feel especially homey. There is a record player for putting on some music, a full kitchen for mornings when breakfast at home sounds better than going out, and a cozy living room with a sofa and TV to unwind after a day of exploration.

The bathroom might be one of the most memorable spaces in the house, featuring an antique clawfoot tub paired with Texas tin barn finishes. Modern conveniences are mixed in throughout the bungalow, including central air conditioning, fast Wi-Fi, a Nest thermostat, streaming options, and access to Amazon Alexa Music.

The single bedroom, with a queen-size memory foam mattress, is best suited for two guests, although additional sleeping arrangements may be available during special events with the host's permission. There are also two outdoor porches, plus front and backyard space for enjoying some fresh air between Austin adventures.
