Did you know that there are Monarch butterflies in South Carolina? This year, if you're ready for a magical butterfly-filled spring and summer, SC is the place to be! The dainty butterflies that received so much national attention over the years for their migration southward to Mexico, will soon make their way across South Carolina en route to the northern U.S. and Canada - and we will have a front-row seat for the event! You do not want to miss out on catching a glimpse of the fluttering beauties in South Carolina, and we're sharing all the information you need to know, including the best time to see monarch butterflies in South Carolina. Check out this magical spring event:

In recent years, it was thought that the monarch was in danger as numbers of them dwindled. But this year's migration shows every indication that the monarch is on the rise again.

In previous years, an estimated 300 million monarch butterflies made their way northward, roosting overnight in swarms that covered the landscape.

It will take 3-4 generations for them to reach their final destination as they travel by day and roost by night. And all the while...feeding on all of the fragrant beauty found along the way.

Lucky for us, South Carolina is in the path of the monarch butterfly's spring migration - we're specifically a breeding region - before these beautiful creatures continue to make their way north.

That means the best time to see monarch butterflies in South Carolina is April-May. So, keep your eyes peeled and camera handy!

The best part? You can help these magnificent creatures survive and thrive by planting pollinator flowers and plants around your home, leaving those dandelions in your lawn for a few extra weeks in spring, and avoiding pesticides. Milkweed is, of course, their favorite!

When do monarch butterflies migrate through South Carolina? This U.S. Forest Service interactive map predicts the flight patterns as well as the timing. It indicates exactly when we can expect the big show here in the Palmetto State.
