Roll down the windows and let the summer breeze sweep through as you travel the 97 miles from downtown Pittsburgh to Shawnee State Park near Bedford.

Drop your comfiest beach towel on the sand leading to the 451-acre Shawnee Lake. Or, sprawl out under the nearby shade of the trees on the grassy area.

Spend the day wading in the pool or simply basking in the golden sunshine. The beach features showers and flush toilets.

Of course, you'll likely want to pack a picnic lunch. Or, just grab some snacks from the vending machine near the sandy beach.
