We never know what hidden gems we'll run across when we go hiking. Whether we run into local wildlife or discover a little-known waterfall, we're pretty much guaranteed at least one surprise during our trek. When you folow this mysterious woodland trail in Pennsylvania, you'll come across ruins that date back to the opening of the 20th century.

Just about 25 minutes from Philadelphia, Rolling Hill Park in Gladwyne spans more than 100 lush acres and boasts forested areas and wide open meadows.

Of its hiking trails, Rolling Hills Creek Trail just might be the most fascinating, as it's home to beautiful ruins. (Don't forget your camera for this one.)

The trail, which comes with an easy rating, spans just 1.4 miles, but you'll find a whole lot of scenery packed into it.

Along with colorful wildflowers, towering trees, and a small waterfall, the trail leads to ruins that date back to the turn of the 20th century.

Expect some uphill climbing on the trail that features the ruins of...

The Barker Mill, the last of the standing mills that once occupied much of the park. You'll also come to the tenement housing, where the mill workers once lived.

Keep your distance from the ruins, admiring them from afar as the crumbling rocks could pose safety hazards. (You'll still be able to see a lot and score some amazing photos, too.)
