Run Across Fascinating Ruins Along Devil’s Hole Trail In Pennsylvania

Hiking just might be one of the most unique activities in all of PA. After all, no matter what trail we hike - whether it's easy or difficult, long or short - we never know just what we're going to encounter. We might pass 200-year-old trees, cross a historic covered bridge, or come across mysterious ruins. If you're a fan of ruins and the past, you'll likely fall head over heels on Devil's Hole Trail in Pennsylvania.

Expect a bit of a challenge along the 3.1-mile trail that meanders through State Game Lands Number 221 in Cresco.

The trail has earned a moderate rating because it's not marked and you'll have to cross streams several times. Old or waterproof shoes are the way to go on this trek.

Be prepared for rocky terrain and a bit of mystery. You'll come across ruins, although no one really knows what they once were.

Some say the multi-story building might have been a speakeasy or maybe even a ski lodge that met its demise sometime in the mid-20th century.

Whatever it was, today, hikers can check out its many remains, from a massive boiler to a furnace.

Snap some photos, and maybe even allow your imagination to run wild with possibilities as to what the remains could have been.

Run across an assortment of local wildlife. Some hikers have even seen bears as they followed the rocky path.

If you plan to hike the trail, prepare to get wet during the stream crossings. Cell service may also be spotty or non-existent.
