A swimming hole in Pennsylvania just takes summer to that next level of fun. Sure, we can head to our nearest waterpark for some of summer's biggest thrills and chills. However, a day at a swimming hole allows us to relax as we sunbathe, wade in the cool water, and soak up every moment. It's the perfect old-school summer day.
With all of Pennsylvania's swimming holes, some are sure to get overlooked - like the beach at Greenwood Furnace State Park in Huntington.
Welcoming guests seasonally from the end of May through the middle of September, the sandy beach is open from 8 a.m. to sunset. That gives you plenty of time for the perfect beach day.
Snag a spot on the spacious 300-foot sandy beach that's ADA-accessible.
Don't worry about changing before you arrive at the beach. The park offers both a dressing area and showers.
Consider bringing a picnic along, too. In addition to picnic tables, the park also features eight picnic pavilions that you can reserve.
If you don't feel like lugging food and drinks along, the snack bar is just a short stroll from the sand.
The beach boasts a full menu of fun - from volleyball courts and horseshoe pits to a playground and a ball field.
Clocking in at a cozy 423 acres, the park also offers a ton of fun all year around. Explore a bit on one of the hiking trails. Go kayaking or canoeing, and enjoy a bit of fishing.
The lush state park also offers tent and RV parking sites, perfect for turning your day trip into a camping adventure.
