Hike Along The Coast Then Have Some Pie On This Delightful Adventure In Oregon

Looking for the perfect itinerary for a day on the coast in Oregon? Why not go on a hike and then stop for coffee and pie afterward? It doesn't get much more lovely than that! Read on to learn about this great coastal hike near Manzanita, Oregon, and the best place to go for sweets and treats after your hike is complete.

This is the perfect day trip from Portland! It's just an hour and 45 minutes from Portland to Oswald West State Park in Arch Cape, Oregon, just north of Manzanita. There are lots of great hikes in this state park, but one of the best is the Elk Flats Trail.

From end to end, the Elk Flats Trail is 2.9 miles out and back. It's a bit longer than that if you take the branch trails to the overlooks and you absolutely should.

One of the amazing things that you'll see off one of these overlooks is Devil's Cauldron. Devil's Cauldron is a small cove with very turbulent waters. As the water enters and leaves it, it's quite noisy and it's a sight to see.

Fortunately, there is a low fence at the Devil's Cauldron overlook so you don't get too close to the edge. You certainly don't want to fall into the cauldron...

The rest of the views along the Elk Flats Trail are also pretty spectacular.

In the spring and fall, the trail can be a little slippery with mud, so be sure to wear good hiking shoes for your own safety.

The overlooks give you incredible, panoramic views of the ocean, the rocky shore, and the West Oswald State Park's forests.

This is coastal Oregon at its very best. You'll be amazed at the views on this hike!

The entire hike should take you about two hours to complete out and back, even if you factor in photo stops.

When you've finished this hike, you're sure to be ready for some food! Head into Manzanita and stop at Sisters & Pete's Coffee and Treats at 725 Manzanita Avenue.
