A Peaceful Escape Can Be Found Along the Norman Wilder Forest Trail in North Carolina
Towering trees, distant mountain views, fresh air — all of this and more can be found along the Norman Wilder Forest Red Trail in Tryon, North Carolina.
There's a peaceful, scenic trail with just the right amount of ruggedness and challenge tucked away within the Norman Wilder Forest. It measures just 1.8 miles, although it packs quite a punch in terms of interesting scenery. Come with us as we dive into this lovely, secluded trail near Tryon, North Carolina.
For the quintessential rewarding hike in nature, head out to the Norman Wilder Forest's Red Trail. We recommend visiting during a weekday and preferably, early in the morning as parking here is quite limited. Once you arrive, lace up your sturdy boots and prepare for an exhilarating trip.

Though the trail is well-maintained, the red trail markers can be difficult to find. Be sure to download the AllTrails map ahead of your hike. There are a few steep inclines and some rocks to navigate, but overall, the trail is considered to be moderate. This trail offers beautiful forest views and even some mountain views as you gain elevation.

Folks agree that this may not be a kid-friendly trail as the incline during the last fifteen minutes of the hike is pretty steep. It is a great dog-friendly trail if you can keep your four-legged friend on a leash. The trail remains shaded in the summer for a nice respite from the heat.

In addition to some mountain views, hikers can also look forward to seeing a small waterfall and a cliff towards the top of the trail. (You'll want to take the Yellow Trail towards the end to see the waterfall, which will be most prominent after a heavy rain).
