There is one place, however, that is so stunning in freezing weather it was named for what happens there when the falls begin to freeze. Scroll on to see what we believe will become your new favorite winter adventure: the frozen Looking Glass Falls!

Looking Glass Falls is one of the most popular waterfalls in North Carolina, for good reason.

This natural North Carolina wonder is easily accessible and stunningly beautiful.

It’s actually named for something that only happens in winter:

Water freezes on the flat rock beside the falls during the chilly winter months, making it smooth and shimmery, like a mirror. The rock is called Looking Glass Rock, and that's where Looking Glass Falls got its name.

In times of extreme cold, though, you might find a great deal of frozen water at Looking Glass Falls.

It is the North Carolina winter, afterall, so be sure to dress as warmly as possible!

Looking Glass Falls is certainly one of the most beloved sights here in our home state.

The ease of access and incredible view make this, one of the most popular waterfalls in North Carolina, the picture perfect spot any time of year . . .

But there’s just nothing like hearing the frost crunch under your feet as you gaze up at water perfectly frozen in time!

Looking Glass Falls is located in Pisgah National Forest, off of U.S. 276 near Brevard. You can learn more about how to plan your visit by visiting the AllTrails website.
