This Incredibly Bizarre New York Beach Is Like Nothing You’ve Ever Seen

With summer in full swing, now is the perfect time to take advantage of New York's beautiful beaches. We've already talked about some of our favorites that we highly suggest checking out this summer, but what about a particular Brooklyn location that doesn't quite call for your average beachwear?

While most of our residents are familiar with many of New York City's offbeat sights to see, this incredibly bizarre New York beach is like nothing you've ever seen:

"One man's trash is another man's treasure."

Ironically, an idiom has never made more sense and held more truth. Located at the southern end of Brooklyn, this bizarre beach is one of the many offbeat sights you can see in New York City.

In the 1800s, the island became home to several horse-rendering plants and eventually was used as a landfill for New York City's garbage.

Is the view of a beach covered in what many consider to be well... garbage, making sense now? Or the fact that this place is creepily named Dead Horse Bay?

Now, the beach draws in a variety of visitors from artists and crafters to urban explorers.

Artists, crafters and thrifters alike all visit here in hopes of finding unique items that can be used to create astonishing works of art or simply to be used to decorate their homes.

There are several trails here that will lead you to the beach, all quick and easy walks that will have you forgetting you're right in the big city.

You'll start off the quick walk surrounded by trees and peaceful scenery, not your average concrete city sight. Quickly the trails turn into a beach setting, putting sand beneath your feet and the bay right before your eyes.

True, the prominent items of garbage you'll find along the beach are glass bottles, there is also much more to be found here. From abandoned boats to old dolls and washed up wildlife to everyday household items from the 1950s, there's something for everyone to find here.

Creating a song of sorts, the waves crashing into the glass bottles becomes oddly soothing.

A sound you may imagine to be nothing but a pestering annoyance, the unique noise is something you'll never forget once you visit here.

So the question is, do you see trash or treasure when you look at this bizarre Brooklyn beach?

Pictured above you can see one visitor proudly holding up a half-gallon jug, one of the many reasons this beach is worth visiting. If you're not from the nearby area, you could take a road trip here where you gather up an assortment of items and then go home to create something that will make your memories last forever. Or who knows, maybe you'll be too grossed to take anything back with you.

How to get here: If you're traveling by car, use these coordinates 40.581936, -73.888035 that will bring you to the parking lot. Once you park, you'll walk back down Aviation Road, cross over Flatbush Avenue and voila! You've made it.
