New York state has an incredible 180 state parks and 22 national parks. With so many options, it goes without saying that obviously some hidden gems might fall through the cracks. One underrated state park in New York that we feel like doesn't get enough love is Clarence Fahnestock State Park in Carmel. This place is magical no matter what time of year you visit. The spring brings green growth and diverse flora; there's a beach to enjoy in the summertime; fall foliage abounds in the autumn; and there's a specially-designated winter area for snowy activities. Add it all up, and Clarence Fahnestock State Park In New York is a fun place to visit all year-round!

The 14,000-acre park boasts numerous hiking trails, four ponds, and two lakes.

With so much to do, if you decide to stay for a night or two, there's plenty of camping available on site!

Canopus Lake is a beautiful man-made lake that's got a lovely little beach. You can swim, sunbathe, and rent a kayak or rowboat.

The fun doesn't stop in the winter! Fahnestock Winter Park is situated inside the main park, and is a great spot for tube sledding or skiing.

Wondering who the namesake of the park was? Clarence was a doctor who passed away during World War I treating influenza patients. His brother donated the land that would eventually become the park to the state.

This is a great park with incredible views. New York is filled with some wonderful natural areas, so get out and explore!
