For me, there's nothing quite like getting into nature to clear away life's stresses or to simply get an energy recharge. It's well known that taking a hike or nature walk is not only physically beneficial but also does wonders for the mind. Water features like cascades, brooks, and ponds are some of my favorite places to visit, and one of the quietest hikes in New Hampshire can be found at Wachipauka Pond in Warren.
Wachipauka Pond in Warren is a remote, 22-acre backcountry pond nestled between Mt. Mist and Webster Slide Mountain.
Wachipauka Pond can be approached from either Rt. 25 to the northeast (which has better parking) or from Rt. 25C (which is a shorter distance) to the southwest.
Wachipauka Pond Trail is a segment of the long-distance Appalachian Trail, but fortunately, you don't have to hike 2,200 miles to reach the pond!
While the distance to the pond by foot is relatively short, the surrounding topography provides a sense of isolation and solitude.
As with many bodies of water around the state, early morning is the best time to possibly see wildlife, including the resident moose.
Autumn in New Hampshire is always a special time to be out in nature, and a walk to Wachipauka Pond during autumn is no exception.
For an interesting side trip, hikers can make the short but steep climb to Webster Slide Mountain, which provides a birds-eye view over the pond.
For more information on how to reach Wachipauka Pond, refer to the AMC White Mountain Guide and visit the White Mountain National Forest website.
Waterfalls, brooks, and ponds often serve as some of the most quiet hikes in New Hampshire. Visit our guide to hikes in the Granite State that lead to these destinations as well so many more.
