Explore A New Side Of The White Mountains With The Lonesome Lake Loop, A Special Trail In New Hampshire

When you want to get away from it all, the White Mountains are the place to go. Filled with endless trails and scenic outlooks, it’s easy to see why it’s on every hiker’s bucket list.

Tucked away in Franconia Notch, there’s a picturesque little lake hiding between the mountains that just begs you to visit it.

This is Lonesome Lake, a beautiful 12-acre lake within Franconia Notch State Park.

The trail to get to it is just shy of 2 miles, but it is a bit of a work out to get there.

It may not be the longest trail in the state, but you’ll gain some elevation pretty quickly, and have some challenging terrain.

But the trail does level out, leading you further into the emerald forest.

Once the treelike clears, you’ll be met with incredible views of the lake with stunning views of Mount Lafayette. Kick your shoes off and splash around the cool, refreshing waters.

You might even make a new friend!

Even if you don’t see any wildlife, it’s a wonderful spot to sit on the shoreline and watch a peaceful sunrise or sunset.
