There are plenty of reasons to spend time in our little state, but one of our favorites is the access to the outdoors. With forests filled with hiking trails and plenty of ways to enjoy nature, there's truly something for everyone. But that doesn't mean everyone needs to visit the same place. This lesser-known state park in New Hampshire offers beauty and fun without the same hustle and bustle you might find at the busier spots.

Ahern State Park is located in Laconia and offers all the beauty we love about being outside in New Hampshire.

The park was made official in 1994 and was renamed in 1998, making it one of the state's newer parks.

The park is about 128 acres and offers a variety of hiking trails to enjoy.

Each route varies in length, so be sure to make your plans ahead of time to maximize your time in the park.

Ahern State Park is special for a lot of reasons, but one of the best hidden secrets is that it covers 3,500 feel of Lake Winnisquam shoreline.

That makes is great for fun on (and next to!) the water. Swimming, boating and fishing are allowed here, which makes it even easier to spend an entire day.

There's no camping at the park, so you'll need to plan on leaving at the end of the day. But there's a good chance you'll be tuckered out after a day of adventures and you'll want your own bed.

Ahern State Park is open year-round, so nature lovers who appreciate the state in every season will have plenty to enjoy. Don't forget to bring the dogs along! They're permitted on the trails, but not on the beach.
