While we love winter, it's spring and summer we hold our breath for each year. The trees bloom, the skies clear and everything just feels a whole lot more fun. The world opens up and we're ready to get out there and enjoy it! There are plenty of ways to get outside, but hitting the trails that meander through the woods is one of the best. Today we're telling you about a route that takes you through the trees and around a lake. It's peaceful and quiet and perfect for a fun day out.
The Lake Massabesic Trail near Auburn might not be the first hike you consider when getting outside, but it's just as beautiful as any of the more well-known routes. In fact, we'd argue that it's better!
To take the 3.7-mile route begin at the Audubon Building which leads through a pretty field with bird houses and a few benches.
There are a number of trails here, but each one leads through the forest providing lovely shade and quiet.
You'll want to arrive early for optimal solitude, but even later when more people arrive you'll enjoy the beauty.
What's especially nice about this trail is that it's gorgeous year round. The fall foliage in the forest will completely surround you.
But the wildflowers in the summer will create an area that's awash in color.
And don't shy away in the winter! The frozen lake is a thing of beauty.
Most of the route will be fields and forest.
But as you get to the end you'll find the water views.
This is a looped trail, so you won't need to worry about repeating views.
Just enjoy the walk, watch out for mud and a few roots and you'll enjoy a quintessential New Hampshire day out.
