You Have To Visit This Incredible Pine Forest In New Hampshire

Walks in nature are my thing and they are a big part of why I moved to the state. It's fascinating to look at the life that grows all around us in the forest. From the tiniest insect to the most massive tree, it's an environment that can't help but bring about awe. The state's high mountains and their scenic views are, of course, spectacular, but sometimes the beauty is right in front of you at your feet. Here's one easy nature walk in New Hampshire where you can experience this for yourself.

The Nature Conservancy's Ossipee Pine Barrens Preserve spans 2,700 acres in the towns of Ossipee, Freedom, Madison, and Tamworth.

A variety of routes can be fashioned using the trail system here. The All Persons Trail is a universally-accessible path for wheelchairs and other assistive devices.

The fire-dependent ecosystem within the forest, comprised of pitch pine and scrub oak, thrives here.

The wildlife that lives here is uncommon and diverse, including almost two dozen rare moths and butterflies along with several declining bird species.

Pets are welcome on the trails here, but are required to be leashed in order to not disturb the wildlife that calls the barrens home.

Below the patchwork of open and tangled forest lies an inviting bed of blueberry shrubs ripe for the picking during the late summer.
