You Might Be Surprised to Hear the Predictions About New Hampshire’s Mild and Dry Upcoming Winter

One certain thing about the weather here is its uncertainty. Here's what the Farmer's Almanac predicts for the upcoming winter season!

If there's one thing we can be certain of by living in New Hampshire, it's the uncertainty of what the weather will do—especially in winter. As a kid, I recall long, snowy winters when I would stay outside until I froze solid. In recent years, however, the trend has been toward shorter and milder winters as worldwide climate change becomes more prevalent (but that's a whole other plate of nachos we won't get into for now). But anything could happen, you know, and the Farmers' Almanac 2024-2025 winter predictions offer insight into what might be in store.

After an unseasonably warm and temperate winter last year, conditions are on track for mild and dry conditions this season. I'm not sure whether to celebrate or not; I kind of miss the super-snowy winters, but others may disagree. I just can't get enough of the awesome winter scenes in New Hampshire that just beg to be photographed, but I digress.

Rain? Snow? It'll be a toss up this year - though, of course, we can still rely on the chill of winter up here in New England no matter what. And no matter what form the first precipitation of the season takes, it always seems to be an adjustment for us hearty New Englanders! Snowstorms will also most likely be mixed with warmer periods of sleet and ice. New Hampshire is no stranger to ice storms, which can cause structural and environmental damage and knock out power. A snowy winter would be good for the state's ski areas, as the recent trend of mild winters has resulted in shorter ski seasons. We can only hope - the Almanac, while fun, should be taken with a grain of salt. This forecast is just for fun - and fun is what we should all have this year!

Deep snow in the mountains is also a boon for winter hikers and snowshoers. Forests become magical landscapes, the air is crystal clear, and best of all, there are no bugs! The month of March typically marks the beginning of a seasonal transition here, but it might not go quietly due to wild temperature swings.

Winter in New Hampshire can be a harsh season, but it can also turn our magnificent natural scenery into a magical wonderland. So, we'll have to see how the 2024-2025 winter predictions pan out.
