Discover the scenic Ellis River Ski Trail in New Hampshire, perfect for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing with stunning views of the river and surrounding forest.
Got a pair of snowshoes and a hankering for some exhilarating activity? Head to the Ellis River Ski Trail! Mainly used by cross-country skiers in New Hampshire's snow-covered months, it's about a four-mile loop considered easy to moderate. The views of the Ellis River and surrounding forest are superb, especially with snow-dusted pines and tall branches. The river is relatively small, at about sixteen miles long, but is big on gushing waters and scenic curves.
The trail starts in Jackson, a quintessential New England town.
Surrounding mountains are snow-capped much of the year and provide a wonderful backdrop.
The Ellis River may not be front-of-mind like the Mississippi or Amazon, but it is still breathtaking.
The nearby White Mountains boast a formidable slope, but the trail is relatively flat. Traversing it is much more a cross-country endeavor than a downhill one.
Quite narrow in parts, this section of the river features a picturesque bridge. It serves photographers well as both a focal and vantage point.
The Ellis River is a bit of a hidden gem, with fall hues reminiscent of agate, turquoise, and amber.
If you're interested in crunching along this trail to discover the lovely Ellis River, information about it is abundant online. You'll also find out lots about the town of Jackson and nearby White Mountains, such as where to relax and eat after your outdoor exercise. So get out your boots or snowshoes and head to the trail.
