A Winter Storm Is Already Coming To Montana And Here’s What You Need To Know
Montana is experiencing unusually early and heavy snowfall, with significant accumulations expected across the state.
Remember when this year's Farmers' Almanac predicted "a parade of snowstorms" for the coming winter? Well, apparently Mother Nature didn't want to wait that long. Browning was hit with four feet of snow at the end of September, and we've been seeing flurries is most parts of the state ever since. If you look outside today and it appears to be snowing more heavily than usual, that's because most of Montana is being bombarded with icy blasts.
We're certainly no strangers to snow here in Montana, even before (and after) winter's official dates.
If you grew up in the Treasure State, you're accustomed to diving in the snow. We have numerous jokes and quips about our winters, including the notion that winter driving is easier because the potholes are filled with snow.
Still, the weather reports lately have been pretty daunting, especially for early October.
As MSNBC reported, significant snowfall was already sweeping into parts of Montana by Tuesday, and that was just the beginning.
The budding storm has resulted in a severe storm warning issued through the weekend.
While less snow will fall from this storm than the recent late September storm, accumulations will likely range from a few inches in parts of northern Idaho and the eastern parts of Montana and Wyoming to a whopping 24 inches in south-central Montana.
The largest amounts of snow are likely to fall over the Elkhorn, Bighorn, Beartooth, Madison, and Absaroka Ranges.
No big deal - just a good portion of the Treasure State's mountain ranges.
According to Weather.com, this snowfall may end up breaking some October records.
And the snow could linger through Sunday. No matter what part of the state you call home, you should prepare for some cold winds this weekend.
Most of us enjoy the snow here in Montana... after all, we live here to experience all four seasons.
That said, it would be nice if we could at least wait until after Halloween for news like this!
