10 Wonderful Ways To Beat The Winter Blues In Montana

Discover various activities to beat the winter blues in Montana, from winter hikes to hot springs.

It doesn't matter how many Montana winters you've endured--they're long, cold, and brutal. And by February, many of us have the winter blues. But it doesn't have to be that way. Here are a few ways to keep yourself occupied until spring (finally) comes to the Treasure State.

1. Bundle up and go for a winter hike.

We know the last thing you want to do is go out in the cold, but our winter scenery is so gorgeous, it can cure a case of winter blues.

2. Attend as many winter festivals and events as possible.

From Seeley Lake's Winterfest to February's Cabin Fever Days (now in its 40th year!), there are plenty of winter events in Montana. If you always have something to look forward to, you won't feel as blue.

3. Spend some quality time inside our beautiful theatres.

This is The Ellen in Bozeman.

4. Start planning all your spring and summer road trips now.

Where will this year take you?

5. Hit the hot springs.

There's nothing like soaking in a hot springs pool in the dead of winter. Luckily, Montana has plenty of places to do that, like Fairmont Hot Springs Resort.

6. Now is the time to go to your favorite restaurants and order all your favorite comfort food.

Cinnamon rolls from the Western Cafe, anyone?

7. Hit the slopes.

Montana has some of the best skiing in the nation. Don't let the tourists have all the fun.

8. Go sledding.

Not a skier? Not to worry -- sledding is a pastime that never gets old.

9. Catch up on your reading.

Montana has more bookstores per capita than any other state. Cozy up by the fireplace and read a few.

10. If all else fails, go somewhere warm for a few days.

If you have the means to do so, taking a late winter vacation can help you beat your winter blues. Besides, spending a couple of days away from Montana helps you appreciate the Treasure State even more.

It may not seem like it now, but spring is on its way. Here are some beautiful towns to visit.
