Take A Lengthy Loop Trail Around This Montana Mountain Lake For A Peaceful Adventure

Lake Como Loop Trail in Montana offers a scenic and easy hiking experience around a beautiful lake.

We may be a bit biased, but we happen to believe hiking in Montana is better than hiking anywhere else. Whether you're up for navigating some tough terrain or you'd prefer an easy loop trail, you'll find it in the Treasure State. And if you happen to be hiking the Lake Como Loop Trail in the Bitterroot Valley of Montana, you can have a little bit of everything, scenery-wise. Montana's Lake Como is just as enchanting as Italy's... and this trail will take you all the way around it.

Lake Como is located about 11 miles from Darby in the beautiful Bitterroot Valley.

It's an extremely popular tourist destination, especially in the summertime.

The Lake Como Loop Trail, as the name implies, wraps all the way around the lake.

This means the trail spans over seven miles. But if you're up for a hike of that length, you shouldn't encounter anything too treacherous. The hike is considered an easy one.

The trail starts out with a nice, flat section, which is paved for about the first quarter of a mile.

Soon, you'll cross a pack bridge across Rock Creek. The bridge is nice and sturdy, and you'll see some wonderful views.

This area is very well-maintained, so you can count on a safe hike.

And while you probably won't have the entire trail to yourself, if you go early in the day (or during the off season) you'll have plenty of peaceful moments.

This hike includes all sorts of surprising scenery, like a breathtaking waterfall.

Plus, you'll be right next to one of the most gorgeous lakes in Montana... which is really saying something!

Lake Como Dam was built in 1905 to provide late season irrigation for the Bitterroot Valley.

The lake is usually at full pool from early spring through mid-July.

The next time you're in the Bitterroot Valley, hike some (or all) of the Lake Como Loop.

Depending on the time of year, you may need to purchase a $2 Recreation Pass. And whenever you go, make sure to leave it better than you found it.

If you're looking for a Montana hike to add to your summer to-do list, we highly recommend this lovely loop at Lake Como!
