The Easy Trail In Montana That Will Take You To The Top Of The World
The M Trail in Bozeman, Montana offers a short but rewarding hike with scenic views of Gallatin County.
Hiking is a worthwhile pastime in Montana for two reasons: You get some great exercise, and you get to take in scenic views of the most beautiful state in the country. And if you pick the right trail, you can do both without exerting yourself too much.
Bozeman's M Trail is one of those hikes, and it's easy to see why it's so popular.
Because it leads to the giant letter M perched above Bozeman, the M Trail is definitely easy to find.
Just follow Rouse Avenue until it becomes Bridger Canyon Road and find the trailhead at Route 86.
The M Trail is under 2 miles in length, so you don't even have to devote an entire day to it.
But don't think that means it will be entirely easy... you'll still have a climb ahead of you.
You can either take the right fork or the left fork up the trail. The right fork is more steep, but the left fork has switchbacks.
Neither is extraordinarily difficult, but both paths are just challenging enough.
But once you reach the top, you'll realize it's worth the climb.
The view from the M really is incredible.
Gallatin County is breathtaking in any season, and this trail is open all year (although winter weather can make reaching it impossible).
While you probably won't ever be alone on this popular trail, if you go early enough, you'll enjoy moments of seclusion.
And even though this trail can get crowded, it's always a hike worth taking.
Bozeman's M Trail is a perfect pick for those days when you feel like hiking but don't have all day. And if this trail isn't within driving distance, one of these three mile (or less) trails might suffice.
