Escape To Ross Creek Cedar Grove For A Beautiful Montana Nature Scene
Ross Creek Cedars Scenic Area in Montana offers an enchanting nature trail through ancient, giant cedar trees.
Part of Montana life involves love and appreciation for nature. Whether you're a hiker, a hunter, a skier, or just enjoy camping and getting lost in the great outdoors, there's no doubt you like to be outside when the weather allows. And while we have some pretty diverse scenery in the Treasure State, nothing quite compares to the Ross Creek Cedars. This scenic area is absolutely enchanting.
The Ross Creek Cedars Scenic Area is located in Lincoln County, in the Kootenai National Forest.
This 100-acre scenic area in Northwest Montana is home to a huge grove of giant, ancient western red cedars.
The public scenic area is located about 29 miles south of Troy off Highway 56 on Ross Creek Road 398.
Once you find it, you'll discover a paved nature trail that will guide you through the forest with informational signs along the way.
Some of the trees are over 500-1,000 years old, and some grow up to 12 feet in diameter and 175 feet in height.
The trail is just under a mile in length and takes you through some of the most scenic parts of the area.
Although the nature path is short, you'll definitely want to take plenty of time to enjoy the beauty.
This place is so peaceful, and the atmosphere is very rainforest-like.
There are plenty of benches along the way that are perfect for stopping and enjoying a picnic.
The scenic area is for day-use only. However, if you'd like to spend the night in the area, Bad Medicine Campground is located nearby.
The Kootenai National Forest established the Ross Creek Cedars in 1960.
It's protected for its scientific and recreational value.
The Ross Creek Cedars are a must-see for all Montanans.
You won't find a place like this anywhere else in the state.
