Montana’s Glacier National Park Is Losing Its Glaciers And It’s Beyond Tragic

Glacier National Park in Montana is rapidly losing its glaciers due to rising temperatures and low precipitation.

There's no denying that temperatures in Montana have been rising for quite some time now. Research released by the U.S. Geological Survey shows that some of the Treasure State's most stunning natural wonders will be non-existent in just a matter of decades. Breaking our hearts by the minute, the glaciers inside of this one national park will be gone before we know it. This national park to visit in Montana is Glacier National Park, and you can read all about it below.

Tucked away up near our country's border, Glacier National Park covers more than one million acres of Montana.

Home to an abundance of natural wonders, the park's main attraction is its jaw-dropping glaciers.

It's one of two national parks in Montana, and back in 1850 you could find 150 glaciers here.

And while beautiful sights like Jackson Glacier still exist, the national park has lost more than 120 of those original glaciers.

Steadily disappearing right before us, only 26 masses of snow and ice meet the requirement of technically being a glacier in the park - covering at least 25 acres.

Seeing a much more significant amount of melting than almost all other states in America, this is the first time officials are reporting that we can expect these glaciers to be truly headed for extinction.

The glaciers are succumbing to the pressures of low precipitation and rising temperatures. It seems unimaginable to think that we'll one day explore this national park without seeing the sights of these breathtaking glaciers.

Did you have any idea that these glaciers were disappearing at such a rapid rate? To view more maps that depict just how much these natural wonders are shrinking, you can view the U.S. Geological Survey's

findings.
