Life in Montana usually means harsh winters. Part of the beauty of life in the Treasure State is experiencing all four seasons to the fullest, and that includes the snow and ice we are accustomed to. That being said, the Farmer's Almanac 2024 winter predictions in Montana state that this winter might bring the usual snow but milder temperatures. If you're one of the many Montanans who love the snow but not so much the cold, you might be in for a treat this winter.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac dates all the way back to 1792. While it has certainly come a long way since then, the fact that it's still being used to predict the weather is pretty amazing. The Almanac’s prognosticators still use a formula created over 230 years ago by founder Robert B. Thomas. I know plenty of people who still purchase the publication today.
The almanac records and predicts astronomical events, from tides to weather patterns. And it has some pretty interesting winter weather predictions in Montana for the 2024-2025 season. Question is, are you ready for another winter in Montana? How about if I told you it won't be as bad this year as in years past?
Taking a look at the most recent Farmer's Almanac winter forecast for Montana, there will be above-average temperatures throughout the state this year. However, snowfall will be around average or above average in the intermountain region while areas in the high plains should have normal snowfall.
In the areas in Eastern Montana (the high plains), temperatures should be warmer than normal. This winter sure sounds like it will be a lot different than others in recent years! However, you should still expect cold, and to prepare for winter like you normally do each year. The coldest periods will be early and mid-January as well as early-to-late February.
Within the intermountain region, temperatures will also be above normal with the coldest periods expected in late November and late January. Make sure you have enough winter gear on hand to keep warm during the coldest parts of the season.
Billings is slated to have a fairly mild winter, although previous predictions for that area have often been inaccurate.
There's no denying that the majority of the state can expect to see near-normal this winter, however.
So, enjoy the beautiful, crisp autumn days while you can, but also remember that winter in Montana can be extraordinarily beautiful.
Our temperatures may be low, but all it takes is one winter sunset to see that life in the Treasure State is beautiful in any season. Wouldn't you agree?
