Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park was first discovered by non-Native Americans in 1882.

But the two men who found it didn't tell many people, and it remained largely undiscovered until 1898, becoming a state park in 1938.

Stepping into this limestone cavern truly feels like entering another world.

The cavern was dissolved by acidic groundwater in tilted beds of the Madison Limestone of Mississippian age.

The park is open year-round, although the cavern is only open for tours from May until the end of September.

The cavern also opens during the holiday season for special tours.
