The Montana Park That Will Make You Feel Like You Walked Into A Fairy Tale

Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park in Montana offers unique and unparalleled natural beauty both above and below ground.

There are plenty of places in Montana that feel downright otherworldly - the Ross Creek Cedars Recreation Area, for one. And while our state parks' scenery is beautiful and diverse, nothing quite compares to the unique Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park, which happens to be the first state park in Montana.

You don't even have to go into the cavern itself to experience the unparalleled beauty of this place.

There's plenty to see above the ground as well.

Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park was first discovered by non-Native Americans in 1882.

But the two men who found it didn't tell many people, and it remained largely undiscovered until 1898, becoming a state park in 1938.

Outside the cavern, the scenery is vast...

... but of course, to get the most out of your experience, you should really venture inside.

Stepping into this limestone cavern truly feels like entering another world.

The cavern was dissolved by acidic groundwater in tilted beds of the Madison Limestone of Mississippian age.

The park is open year-round, although the cavern is only open for tours from May until the end of September.

The cavern also opens during the holiday season for special tours.

We can guarantee you won't see anything like this anywhere else in Montana (and possibly the world).

Lewis and Clark caverns state park is pretty impressive. It's definitely one of Montana's most impressive state parks.
