Hike This Ancient Forest In Montana That’s Home To 400-Year-Old Trees

Although fall is a time of year when most Montanans start thinking about bundling up inside rather than venturing out, it's still fun to plan our next outdoor adventures. When the weather allows, pack up and head to the Kootenai National Forest for a nice brisk hike through the Ross Creek Cedars.

The Ross Creek Cedars Scenic Area is located in Lincoln County near Troy.

Some of the trees are over 400 years old.

The South Fork Ross Creek Trail is a 7-mile nature loop that takes you through the Ross Creek Cedars.

If you continue past the 3-mile park, you'll have a steep incline that leads to a waterfall.

In 1960, the Ross Creek Cedars were established as a national scenic area, protecting them for scientific and recreational purposes.

These old growth trees aren't going anywhere.
