You’ll Never Guess What’s Hiding Inside This Magical Missouri Cave

Missouri is known for having quite a few caves, even earning itself the "Cave State" nickname. Add in a dash of Missouri's wine county and you have yourself a perfect day trip. Welcome to the Cave Vineyard in Ste. Genevieve, a place that combines the best of both worlds.

You'll know you've made it once you drive down Cave Road and notice 15 acres of vineyards sprawled across one breathtaking property.

If you're lucky, you might even catch a rainbow over the Vignole vines.

To reap the benefits of these vineyards, step inside the tasting room.

Enjoy a sampling from the wide variety of wines they have available.

Five varieties of grape are grown on-site including Chardonel, Traminette, Chambourcin, Vignoles, and Norton. Using these grapes, Cave Vineyard is able to create a unique selection of semi-sweet, sweet, dry and semi-dry wines.

After you decide on a glass (or bottle), head on over to the cave.

Salpeter Cave is just 200 yards from the tasting room.

Shuttles are available on select days and will take you through the property's beautiful scenery.

Little is known about the history of the cave, but it's believed to have been a place where Saltpeter was mined to create gun powder.

But today, you'll mostly just find wine aficionados sipping on local wines from this Missouri vineyard.

It's the perfect place for a romantic date or fun activity to enjoy with friends.

If you have a sweet tooth, be sure to hit up the biscotti bar inside the tasting room before you leave.

Cave Vineyard is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., but summer hours start in April, adding an extra hour until closing. Tastings cost $5 each which lets visitors try up to 6 of the wines available. For information on discounted group tastings, click here.
