Here Is The Most Remote, Isolated Spot In Missouri And It’s Positively Breathtaking

Discover the most remote spot in Missouri located in the Hercules Glades Wilderness Area within Mark Twain National Forest.

Earlier this week, I introduced you to some pretty awesome places out in the boonies that are worth driving to. But today, I'd like to take you to the most remote area in Missouri. This beautiful, relaxing spot in Mark Twain National Forest is actually the most removed you can get from people in Missouri. The spot, located in the Hercules Glades Wilderness Area, is only 2.2 miles from the road, but once you're in the forest, it'll seem like modern civilization is hundreds of miles away.

This 12,314-acre wilderness area is considered the oldest wilderness area in Missouri.

Start by taking the Long Creek trail to access the center of the wilderness area, where you'll find Missouri's most remote spot.

After a rainfall, marvel at the beautiful cool creek as you walk along it. Depending on the time of year and if there was a drought, you may only come across some croppings of limestone where the waters used to flow.

Along the trail, you'll hike through Ordovician-aged Cotter dolomite, limestone, open areas, wooded areas and creeks.

Though Long Creek isn't terribly busy with hikers, you may want to camp a bit off-trail for even more peace and quiet.

Take in the fresh scents of fall as you bask in this wooded remote area of Missouri.
