Meander Along The Longest River In The U.S. On The Short But Sweet Missouri River Trail In Missouri
Missouri River Trail in Weston Bend State Park offers a short, scenic hike along the longest river in the U.S.
We don't always have a ton of time to take a break and get outdoors to explore. Fortunately, Missouri's dotted with short and sweet hiking trails that allow us to spend the little time we do have outdoors. If you want to stroll along the longest river in the U.S., follow the picturesque (and really short) Missouri River Trail.
Running just over a half of a mile (roundtrip) through Weston Bend State Park, the Missouri River Trail is one of those easy trails that's perfect for a leisurely stroll any time of the year.
Pick up the trail, which is blazed in yellow, at the Weston Bluffs Picnic Area. The trail is predominately flat and features natural surfaces like grass and some gravel.
However, be prepared for muddy conditions if you're hiking after a rainfall. You might want to wear old shoes that you don't mind getting a bit messy.
Since you're traveling over natural terrain, keep a lookout for tree roots jutting out of the ground and for scattered rocks.
Missouri River Trail meanders through bottomland forest and past colorful wildflowers. You may even catch a glimpse of local wildlife.
Bring your pup along on the dog-friendly trail, as long as he remains leashed.
Your journey to the river's edge is short and promises jaw-dropping views no matter the season.
