With over 20 state parks in Mississippi, you’re never too far away from some natural scenery and peace and quiet. Whether you’re looking for a new hiking trail, a campsite to call home for a few days, or just a change of scenery for an afternoon, Tishomingo State Park is just the ticket. Mississippi’s largest state park is one of the most popular state parks in Mississippi for a reason! Let’s check it out:
Tucked away at the base of the Appalachian Mountains, Mississippi’s Tishomingo State Park offers 1,530 acres of unparalleled natural scenery to explore.
Named after the leader of the Chickasaw nation, the park is overflowing with history.
The Natchez Trace Parkway, the preferred highway from the early 1800s, runs directly through the park. Oh if these paths could talk!
One of the main attractions within the park is the massive rock formations.
You won’t find these anywhere else in Mississippi.
Be sure to bring your hiking boots. There are seven hiking trails that range in difficulty, but all of them are under three miles.
You can mix and match the trails to fit your schedule.
These trails will take you to waterfalls, rocky outcroppings, cliffs, natural springs, and more.
You could easily spend an entire day just hiking the trails. Rock climbing is a popular pastime here, but just remember you’ll need a helmet and a permit before you can start climbing. Both of those are available at the park office.
For a completely different perspective of the park, rent a kayak and explore Bear Creek.
You can rent one from the park or bring your own!
You’ll want to spend at least two days here to be able to explore the park fully. You’ve got plenty of options when it comes to lodging.
In addition to the cabins, there are also several primitive campsites and developed RV slots, too.
Spend a night sleeping under the stars!
This picturesque park will quickly become your favorite state park in Mississippi.
