The Marvelous 1-Mile Trail In Mississippi Leads Adventurers To A Little-Known Bayou Overlook

The Mississippi Sandhill Crane National Wildlife Refuge is a huge, 19,000-acre preserve near the Gulf Coast in Gautier, Mississippi. The refuge is dedicated to providing a safe haven for the Mississippi sandhill crane and its habitat. You could easily spend an entire weekend exploring this area, but if you just have a couple of hours, then be sure to check out the Fontainebleau Trail. We think this short and sweet trail is one of the best hikes in Mississippi for a great adventure that the entire family will enjoy.

The loop trail clocks in at about a mile, making it a quick and easy spot to get your nature fix for the day.

The trailhead is well marked and has several signs explaining more about the wildlife preserve.

The trail is part gravel/primitive with some parts being more of a boardwalk/raised.
