Mytoi Japanese Garden Is A Hidden Gem In Massachusetts Where You Can Find Peace And Quiet

When we think of Cape Cod and the islands, pristine beaches and long stretches of coastline usually come to mind. And while you might not think to visit a botanical garden when on Martha's Vineyard, a visit to the Japanese-style garden, Mytoi, would be a worthwhile addition to your itinerary. Let's explore this lovely Japanese garden in Massachusetts.

Located on Martha's Vineyard, Chappaquiddick Island is a 14-acre Mytoi Japanese-style botanical garden. You'll experience peace and quiet as you explore the grounds here.

This tranquil preserve is home to numerous native and exotic plants. Take a stroll along the walking paths as you take in the beauty all around you.

The pond is the centerpiece of Mytoi and it provides a lovely habitat for frogs, turtles, and goldfish. Surrounding the pond is a pine grove along with flowers and plants.

Pathways meander through birch trees, a rock garden, and a hillside garden, among others. You may also wish to take the half-mile Salt Marsh Trail that leads to a salt marsh.

Throughout the preserve, you'll find plenty of benches. Just have a seat, meditate, and contemplate life for a while. Mytoi is the perfect place to do just that.

In order to maintain the tranquil place that Mytoi is, voices must be kept at a low volume and please stick to the marked pathways.

Admission is free to Trustees Members and there is a small fee for non-members. Paid admission also allows you to visit the 200-acre Wasque Beach nature preserve and Dike Bridge for the day.
