You’ll Have Loads Of Fun At These 8 Pick-Your-Own Fruit Farms In Maine
Maine offers numerous pick-your-own-fruit farms where visitors can enjoy harvesting strawberries, blueberries, and peaches.
There’s nothing more refreshing on a hot summer day than juicy strawberries, blueberries, and peaches! Maine has some of the best of these fruits and they can be found at local farms throughout the state, so long as you’re willing to look around. And while it’s easy to pull over to a fresh fruit stand, we love heading to pick-your-own-fruit farms to do the berry picking ourselves. Luckily, there are lots of pick-your-own farms in Maine. Fun for all ages, these pick-your-own-fruit farms will let you, you guessed it, pick your own strawberries, blueberries, and peaches. Plus, you’ll have some fun doing it!
1. Alewive's Brook Farm, Cape Elizabeth
Strawberry season is full and thriving in June. This is a great spot to find some of the juiciest produce around. Alewive's Brook Farm is family-owned and operated by folks who are also lobstermen!
2. Kelly Orchards, Acton
Kelly Orchards might best be known for apples, but they've got a great pick-your-own peach and blueberry operation as well. You'll need to wait a bit longer for the peaches - more like August. But, the fruit will be plenty juicy! You can also find them at the farmers' markets in Sanford, Springvale, North Berwick, and Kennebunk.
3. Pietree Orchard, Sweden
Pietree Orchard is a mainstay in our fall apple picking plans, but did you know that they've also got wonderful strawberries and blueberries, too? Plan to spend a few hours here as you pick, eat, and enjoy the incredible scenery.
4. Estes Farm, Buxton
Estes Farm is a beloved part of the local community and has been offering up perfectly ripened blueberries since 1954. They grow high bush blueberries and their pick-your-own operation typically runs from late July until late August.
5. Libby and Son U-Picks, Limerick
Libby and Son U-Picks is family-owned and operated, and they've been growing fruit in the area since the 1950s. Picking here always feels like a festival and there are usually some freshly packed delicacies for those who want a taste of the sweet life right away!
6. Berry Best Farm, Lebanon
Head here to pick your own blueberries, raspberries, and peaches at a beautiful 75-acre hilltop farm in Lebanon. Berry Best Farm has got 11 different varieties of blueberries, which are usually ripe from mid-July through Labor Day.
7. Doles Orchard, Limington
Doles Orchard offers a variety of fruit grown fresh in Maine. Time your visit right and you'll find perfect strawberries, tart cherries, and raspberries. Visit in the fall for apples and pears.
8. Patten's Farm, Gorham
Patten's Farm is another wonderful option for robust strawberries. Because they're careful to only allow the best berries to be picked, opening days and hours can vary. Be sure to give them a call at (207) 839-4667 to check in advance.
You should always get in touch with a pick-your-own-fruit farm before visiting since availability depends on ripeness, which can vary depending on the farm and season. As a general rule, the availability of fruit is:
Strawberries / mid-June to mid-July
Tart Cherries / early/mid-July to mid/late-July
Raspberries / mid-July to mid-August & early-September to early-October
Blueberries / mid-July to mid/late-August
Pears / late-August
Apples / Labor Day weekend
Plums / late-September
