Everyone In Maine Must Visit This Epic Farmers Market At Least Once

The Portland Farmers' Market in Maine offers a variety of fresh produce, homemade goods, and unique vendors year-round.

Living in Maine means fresh air and forests, coastal breezes and beautiful days. It's exactly these things that also make Maine the best place to be if you love fresh veggies and fruits, flowers and home made baked goods. While you might be able to get these at a neighbor's house, there's a one stop shop in Portland that might just be a tad easier. The Portland Farmers' Market in Maine is just one of many, but it's truly wonderful.

The Portland Farmers' Market was the first in the city, dating back to 1768.

On Wednesday from April to November, you'll find Maine vendors lining Monument Square just across from the public library.

On weekends, head to Deering Oaks Park to enjoy more than double the vendors.

There's even a parking shuttle picking up at the Marginal Way Park and Ride.

The winter brings the farmers' market indoors to ensure that the cozy goods continue all year long.

But, no matter what day of the week or time of year you visit you'll want to go home with something special.

You'll find Maine grown produce.

Which comes displayed beautifully.

You'll also have access to the freshest Maine fruit.

But, there's so much more!

Like homemade cheese, yogurt and milk.

Freshly cut flowers!

Pickles!

And these helpful tinctures from Dandelion Spring Farm.

One of the most special vendors is Fresh Start Farms, a collective of immigrant and refugee farmers who are part of a farmer-training program that empowers new Americans to launch independent farm businesses.

The Portland Farmers' Market accept credit and debit cards as well as EBT/SNAP payments.

The market is open throughout the year:

Saturdays: April 29 - November 18: Deering Oaks Park, 7am-1pm.

Wednesdays: May 3- November 22: Monument Square, 7am-1pm.

Winter: Saturdays Dec 2, 2017 - Apr 21, 2018: 631 Stevens Ave, 9am-1pm
