1. Driskill Mountain

Clocking in at 535 feet, Driskill Mountain is the highest natural summit in Louisiana, and it's well worth the extra effort to check out. The trail is roughly a mile long, and when you reach the top, you'll have a truly unique tree-top view of your surroundings!

2. Palmetto Trail at Barataria Preserve

Trading mountains for marshes, the boardwalk trails at Barataria Preserve are a nature lover's paradise. All of the trails are less than a mile long, so you can mix and match to fit your schedule.

3. Longleaf Vista Trail

Deep in the Kisatchie National Forest, the Longleaf Vista Trail

will take you on an enchanting 1.5-mile journey through gorgeous longleaf pines and hardwood forests. The recreation area by the same name is the perfect place to park it and watch a treetop sunset.

4. St. Mary’s Falls Trail

You’ll find this hidden gem in the J.C. "Sonny" Gilbert Wildlife Management Area. The trail tops off at just over a mile and is pretty easy as far as primitive trails go. It’s not often you come across waterfalls in Louisiana, so to get the most out of it, try to time your hike after a heavy rainfall so you can really see it in action!

5. Rock Falls Trail

While you’re in the area, you might as well knock out the other waterfall trail in this WMA, Rock Falls. This trail is a little shorter than the St. Mary’s Falls Trail, but the waterfall is much bigger, measuring nearly 17 feet tall, making it the tallest waterfall in the state.
