This Waterfall Swimming Hole In Kentucky Is Perfect For A Hot Summer Day

Eagle Falls in Kentucky offers a refreshing swimming experience with clean, cool water and scenic views.

Summer can be hot all over the Bluegrass State, but places with an abundance of bodies of water, like the following Cumberland Falls swimming hole, seem a bit more refreshing than dryer terrains, you know? Because in all honesty, the heat and humidity can be downright oppressive in the Bluegrass, so there is nothing better than finding the perfect place for a swim. There are ponds, lakes, rivers, and creeks all around the state, but nothing really beats a waterfall swimming hole in Kentucky, like the one located at Cumberland Falls...

1. Getting to Eagle Falls:

Eagle Falls is located within the resort park at 7351 State Highway 90 in Corbin, Kentucky. The map shows its approximate location for your convenience.

2. Eagle Falls is located near the home of the iconic Cumberland Falls moonbow.

You can’t really swim at the large Cumberland Falls, but Eagle Falls is much more inviting. The rocks are less jagged and the water current isn’t harsh at all, even on a rainy day.

3. Plan your visit for after a healthy summer rainfall -- drought affects the falls.

Occasionally, the weather gets a little dry during the height of summer in the Bluegrass. During times like these, the falls get a little dry also. You will always find water, but the stream may not be as strong.

4. Walk behind the falls, too!

There is just something magical about swimming back and forth under the falls. Behind the falls gives a unique perspective on everything in front of you. The feel of the water crashing down on your shoulders is like a power massage, as long as a log doesn’t come down. Knock on wood, there are no reports of that happening.

5. Delight in the falls' cascade of cool, clean water.

The water here seems clean and relatively clear. It might be the rush down the river, or the rocks that filter everything out. Whatever causes the water here to keep flowing and make a refreshing spot to cool off, we hope it continues.

6. This waterfall oasis is not far from Yahoo Falls, either.

The Yahoo Falls are another nice swimming area in the Cumberland Gap National Resort Park. The pool area isn’t as expansive as the one at Eagle Falls though. The area is also a bit more rocky. Overall, Eagle Falls seems the best spot for a swim.

7. These Kentucky waterfalls are special in many ways.

The Indian tribes that once roamed these lands called them sacred waters. They would often make camp near the falls. The sacred water was also used in ceremonies.

We can't get over the magic of these falls!

If you are looking for a special place to cool down on a hot summer day, this waterfall swimming hole in Kentucky is a perfect spot to try. If the beautiful Eagle Falls is inconvenient, you might find one of these beautiful swimming holes more to your liking. Enjoy the hot months by cooling down!
