This Enchanting Hike Takes You Straight Through Kentucky’s Very Own Grand Canyon

When you think of the Grand Canyon, you probably think of Arizona. That doesn't mean that other canyons aren't grand, too, and we think that the Red River Gorge right here in Kentucky is every bit as spectacular. Here's an easy hike that will take you right to one of the gorge's most incredible features.

The Gray's Arch Loop Trail starts at the Gray's Arch Picnic Area, off Tunnel Ridge Road.

This pretty, 4.5-mile loop trail takes you through some of the Red River Gorge's most spectacular scenery.

This hike is easy enough for most hikers. You'll experience an elevation change of 580 feet as you descend into the canyon, then back up, but most kids and adults will love this adventure.

The staircases help with the steep climb down into the canyon and back out of it. This is the most strenuous part of the hike.

The geological features along the trail are particularly interesting. Check out the huge rock overhangs and cliffs, and keep an eye out for interesting rock formations.

The lush foliage along the trail is beautiful, and in the spring and early summer, you'll see wildflowers along the trail.

If you're visiting in the spring, you'll even see a 50-foot waterfall cascading from high above.

Gray's Arch is a gorgeous, 50-foot-tall arch with a 79-foot span.

The largest of all the arches in The Red River Gorge, this arch is magnificent. Make sure you bring your camera to capture this gorgeous natural wonder.
