7 Caves In Kentucky That Are Like Entering Another World
Kentucky is home to unique and interconnected cave systems, including the world's longest, Mammoth Cave.
Mammoth Cave is the longest connected cave system in the world, and Kentucky sits on top of it. Caves practically run from Bluegrass border to border. Being underground is like stepping into a whole different world. Each of these formations are unique in some way, be it size, shape, or consistency.
Here are 7 amazing caves in Kentucky that will make you believe you're stepping into another world:
7. Wind Cave
Wind Cave may not look that unusual, but some say the porous surface is reminiscent of the moon or Swiss cheese.
6. Crystal Cave
The image doesn't do the Crystal Cave justice. Some formations inside are said to glimmer like Austrian crystals in the right lighting.
5. Carter Cave
Tourists can float through the watery passages at Carter Caves in Olive Hill.
4. Onyx Cave
Despite its name, Onyx is not black in color. Instead the jagged stalactites glisten in the light.
3. Horse Cave
Horse Cave is like an underground oasis with rivers flowing more than 100 feet below the surface.
2. Mammoth Cave
Mammoth Cave is the largest interlinking cave system in the world. Each cave is a doorway to a unique world.
1. Gap Cave in Cumberland Gap
The crystal clear water and shimmering pools of Gap Cave are magical.
Each of these underground worlds may eventually link to another cave, but very few, if any, could be considered identical. The Kentucky cave systems were discovered and named at different times throughout our history. These unique formations all have a story to tell.
