This Little-Known Lake Is Perfect For Easy Kayaking And Lounging In Kansas

There's something about being out on the water that's so calming and enjoyable, isn't there? The Sunflower State isn't exactly a place that most people think of lounging by the shore. After all, we're landlocked and better known for our endless plains than our bodies of water. However, we're home to so many amazing lakes in Kansas, and they're wonderful places to check out. Whether you're searching for opportunities to kayak, water ski, bird-watch, or simply relax by the shore, these are some of the best spots around for a getaway. One of our favorites that's not quite as popular as some of our other lakes is Lone Star Lake in Douglas County, KS. This lake is such a grand adventure!

Lone Star Lake is a 185-acre man-made lake that was created by the Civilian Conservation Corps.

The CCC dammed Washington Creek between 1934 and 1940. The area that is now Lone Star Lake Park in southwest Douglas County was once a CCC camp.

This is a wonderful body of water for recreation. Heading out on a kayak or canoe is so relaxing!

It's also a great spot for bird-watching.

Even man-made lakes are vital to local ecosystems. Both native and migratory birds stop here.

If you get here and decide you just don't want to leave, Lone Star Lake Park has seasonal campsites available.

This is such a beautiful and underrated lake near Lawrence, KS!
