One of the best parts about living in the Sunflower State is how many opportunities for adventure there are - whether you're in one of our larger cities or are busy exploring some of the amazing small towns in Kansas, there's truly something for everyone here. The landscape here is dotted with small towns, such as Ozawkie, where life is slow and things feel a bit simpler. Tucked away in Jefferson County, this little town has a population of just over 600 citizens, but there is one attraction that makes this place quite notable: Perry State Park in Ozawkie, KS. This beautiful park is a haven for nature lovers, and it's only about 20 minutes away from Topeka.
Interestingly enough, Ozawkie is not located where it always has been. The town was first settled by white settlers around 1819, but the town was relocated in 1964 when the Perry Dam Project was approved and the land that was once Ozawkie was flooded.
The "new" town of Ozawkie is home to Perry State Park.
The park is open year-round and has a number of great amenities. With more than 40 miles of trails, there's a lot of ground to hike here!
There are also more than 25 miles of horseback trails and 20 miles of mountain biking trails if trekking on foot is not your thing.
The 12,500-acre lake is a popular spot to enjoy time on the water. If you love boating in Kansas, this is the spot for you.
There's nothing like the simple pleasure of relaxing by the water on a warm day.
Perry State Park also offers up more than 100 campsites. There are electric and water hookups available, plus there are several cabins for rent if you prefer the glamping experience.
It's worth noting that there are quite a few insects here, so make sure to bring repellent so you're not swatting away at mosquitoes constantly.
