There are so many advantages to living in Iowa. The winter weather, however, is not always one of them.
Unless you adore driving on snow-covered roads and thrive in unseasonably frigid temperatures, you'll be dismayed to learn that this winter is shaping up to be the extra cold, extra wet kind that many of us dread.
At least, that's what the Farmers' Almanac is expecting based on their recently released prediction for the coming winter. The Farmers' Almanac says that you can definitely expect some, more than usual, along with "unreasonably cold temperatures." This year, overall snowfall in Iowa may be above average.
The Upper Midwest may see higher than average snowfall in January, especially around the Great Lakes. February will be quiet and milder, with the potential for a big storm. And March may bring a large snowstorm to end the season -- so be ready.
In terms of temperatures, in the central United States, temperatures are expected to be well below normal throughout the season. There will be some flip-flopping throughout the winter, but it seems that temperatures will stay very, very low.
There are a few potential silver linings, though. After a winter that cold, we'll be extra happy to see spring, which, the Farmers' Almanac says will arrive following a "lion-like" ending to March.
So what do you think about the Farmers' Almanac winter forecast for Iowa? The Farmers' have a roughly 80% accuracy rate, so we're definitely bracing ourselves for a snowy winter in Iowa!
