Even in a wide-open state like Iowa, it can sometimes feel hard to find a place that's truly out of the way. Many of the most beautiful places in Iowa are jammed with people looking for the same gorgeous spot to take some pictures! That's why I was so happy to find out about the Belva-Deer Lake Loop, located along the lake of the same name in the rural town of Sigourney. A 6.2-mile trail, it features relatively even terrain - and there are plenty of areas around the lake where the path is paved. But those who wander a little off the beaten path onto some of the less-traveled sections of the trail will find open grassland and gorgeous beds of wildflowers that provide some of the best views in the entire state. No matter the season, it's an amazing retreat into one of Iowa's most peaceful havens. Check out this secret wildflower hike in Iowa below!
The walk around Belva-Deer Lake is one of Iowa's most beautiful, complete with an easy waterfront trail.
But for those who continue down the path, they'll be rewarded by a change to rolling grasslands along the 6.2-mile hike.
The path is mostly easy to navigate, although some areas have less even terrain. Wear good hiking boots!
Away from the lake, it's easy to feel like you're in the middle of nowhere, and the view is stunning no matter the season.
During the height of wildflower season, it's common for the grasslands to be overtaken by fields of color, making this a must-visit stop.
And as the season shifts to fall, and the leaves are changing, the trail takes on an especially peaceful and beautiful vibe as you explore it.
It's the perfect spot for quiet reflection, miles away from Iowa's busiest cities.
