Make A Splash This Season At Pine Flats, A Truly Unique Waterfall Hot Spring In Idaho

Pine Flats Hot Spring in Idaho is a unique waterfall hot spring accessible via a short scenic hike.

Here in Idaho, we love our hot springs. With more than 130 soakable hot springs around the state, there is never a shortage of places to relax and recharge. While many of these hot springs are simply large pools of warm water, there is one that is quite unique — Pine Flats Hot Spring. This is actually a waterfall hot spring that is perfect in every way. Don’t be surprised when this becomes your favorite hot spring in Idaho.

Similar to other hot springs in Idaho, you must tackle a short trail to reach the pool of warm water. Fortunately, this hike is short and only 0.6-miles long.

You will find the trailhead to this waterfall hot spring at the Pine Flats Campground near Lowman. This campground is approximately 70 miles from Boise.

This trail follows the Payette River and takes you through a small portion of the Boise National Forest. It’s not only a scenic hike, but the payoff is well worth every step you take.

During the summer months, this waterfall hot spring comes alive. It is quite busy, so try to visit on weekday mornings and avoid the weekends. However, one advantage to the high traffic is you’ll have a well-maintained trail to explore. While the majority of the trail is quite easy, the last portion can become a little challenging. The trail becomes rocky and slippery so take your time and use caution.

You will know you’ve reached the right spot when you see the gorgeous waterfall.

This waterfall falls into a small pool where you can sit and relax in the warm water. There are some smaller pools below the main pool, where the water is cooler but still quite enjoyable.

During the spring months, when the Payette River is in full force, be aware that some of these warm pools will be submerged. The best time to visit is in the summer season.

When at this hot spring, you are tucked away in the mountains, so while you soak, you can enjoy some breathtaking views of the Payette River, mountains, and the forest — it’s all very inspiring!
