The Incredible Wonders In Idaho You Can Only Witness By Hiking
Idaho is a hiker’s paradise. All over this gorgeous state, you will find trails that take you to natural wonders, gorgeous viewpoints, and even a few hidden gems. While some of the best hikes in Idaho are family-friendly adventures, others are much more challenging. Today, I want to highlight one of these challenging trails. The Chain Lakes Basin Trail in the White Clouds Wilderness Area is one hike that will challenge you mentally and physically. It’s a 16.5-mile out-and-back trail but despite the long distance, it's worth every step. You’ll venture to a series of alpine lakes that you can only enjoy by hiking.
The Chain Lakes Basin Trail is not for beginner hikers. It is one trail that is going to challenge you … but in the very best way.
You’ll find the trailhead and parking area off Highway 75, south of Stanley, and at the end of Fourth of July Creek Road.
The Chain Lake Basin Trail is 16.5 miles, and a terrific trail for a backpacking adventure. However, you’ll want to come prepared for plenty of time in the sun and bring lots of bug protection — you’ll meet all types of pesky creatures near the water.
This trail also requires some rock scrambling. You’ll want to leave your furry friend at home for this adventure.
We recommend you download a trail map for this journey as it's easy to lose your way during some portions of the trail.
And come prepared to climb. On this trail, you can expect to gain more than 6,200 feet in elevation! This hike will certainly give your legs a workout.
But, there is nothing quite like the incredible views you will capture as you go. This trail takes you to more than a dozen alpine lakes.
Because of the rural location of these lakes, it isn’t uncommon to have the entire area to yourself. It’s the perfect place to spend some time with Mother Nature.
You’ll also enjoy small creeks and tiny waterfalls as you explore this trail.
The mountain views are also enchanting. This is the type of trail that will take your breath away (in more ways than one!).
