The famed Florida Trail is one of 11 different National Scenic Trails in the country. Running 1,000 miles, with over 300 miles planned, it’s not likely that too many Floridians will complete the trail in their lifetime. But that doesn’t mean that sections of the trail can’t be completed. In fact, The Florida Trail Segment 36, which runs from Scott Road Trailhead outside of Betts, south 16.4 miles, is filled with natural beauty that can be enjoyed in one weekend-long trek.
The Florida Trail Segment 36 is a 16.4-mile jaunt near Fountain, Florida that is filled with natural beauty.
Accessible year-round, this trail has a ton of things to see along the way, from beautiful wildflowers to creeks and more.
Start on the Scott Road Trailhead and follow the posted signs and cleared trail - just be warned there might a few fallen trees from previous hurricanes or brush.
Keep an eye out for the trail gnomes that have been placed along the pathway, guiding you along the way.
One of the highlights of the trail segment is the Two Pennies Bridge which is a delightful wooden bridge crossing over the water.
If you hike during the warmer months then you’ll likely be surrounded by more greenery and natural elements.
Some of these bodies of water along the trail are truly delightful, and you don’t even need to tackle the whole 16 miles in order to enjoy the beauty.
