The Most Romantic Valentine’s Day Hike You’ll Find in Connecticut
Wander through the woods, over a bridge, and along a stream on this romantic hike in Connecticut that promises a short and sweet adventure.
We’ve all likely been there, imagining the perfect Valentine’s Day, plotting every minute detail, and hoping everything will go smoothly. But, in reality, Valentine’s Day can easily become overwhelming, especially with the sheer number of people celebrating at restaurants, movie theaters, and other romantic destinations. Even if you’ve got an evening out on your itinerary this Valentine’s Day, start with a quiet wander through the woods on this romantic hiking trail in Connecticut that’s brimming with natural beauty.
Even if you’ve got a full day planned, try to squeeze in around an hour for a journey along the Bull’s Bridge Loop Trail, a breathtaking journey that spans just 2.1 miles in Kent. Prepare for an abundance of natural beauty, including ice floating along frozen streams and snow-capped tree branches, and a moderate challenge. Before you face the trail’s challenges, however, you’ll have to find a place to park.
If you’ve never been, use your GPS to lead you to the trailhead parking. A medium parking lot promises ample spaces on quiet days. However, if you’re planning to hike on a weekend, go early as the parking lot tends to fill up quickly.
Once you arrive at the trailhead, gear up for a few challenges, predominately an elevation increase of around 200 feet and some rocky terrain. Sturdy shoes are recommended to help navigate the rocky portions of the trail, and if it’s snowed recently, the path may be slippery. It can also get muddy after it rains and when the snow melts, so shoes you don't mind getting wet and dirty are a good idea.
The kid-friendly trail is also an ideal choice if you’re looking for a fun Valentine’s Day activity for the whole family, including leashed pups. Bundle up for a scenic trek that will take you on a bridge that passes over a stream, typically frozen when the temperatures plunge, and a picture-perfect spot for snapping photos of the wintery landscape (and each other). The trail promises plenty of selfie-worthy moments, too, in front of tiny waterfalls, rocks dusted with snow, and trees swaying in the winter breeze.
But the scenic beauty doesn’t stop when the hike ends. Save some time before or after your hike to soak in the views from Bull’s Covered Bridge, which you’ll stroll through on your way to and from the parking lot. Peek out of the covered bridge’s window, which overlooks a stream under endless blue skies, snap photos and share a gentle embrace.
Even if you can't make it on Valentine's Day, add this romantic hiking trail in Connecticut to your must-visit list. While it's particularly pretty sprinkled with snow, the trail showcases Connecticut's natural beauty in every season.
