The Outdoor Discovery Park In Connecticut That’s Perfect For A Family Day Trip

Despite being among the smallest states in the country, Connecticut is quite densely-populated. We love the state, but being around people all the time can feel a bit stifling. Luckily, there are plenty of areas where you can get out and indulge in nature. We've got many preserves and state parks in Connecticut that make it easy to explore the beauty of the natural world around us. If you're looking for a pretty spot that doesn't get quite as much attention as some of our better-known parks, look no further than Long Wharf Nature Preserve in New Haven. It's a natural oasis within one of the largest cities in the state, and a perfect place to explore!

Long Wharf is a great little nature preserve in New Haven. It's not too big, so it's great when you just have a few hours to kill during a trip to New Haven.

The entire preserve spans about 15 acres at low tide.

The preserve is located right along the shoreline, making it great for bird-watching.

There are plenty of interpretive signs telling you about the wildlife that reside in the area and the history of the preserve.

The nature trail in the preserve is about 1.5 miles long and only takes about half an hour to get through. It's very minimal elevation gain and suitable for kids and novice explorers.

The breeze blowing in from the water is always a treat!

There are often food trucks parked in this area, so you can even grab a bite to eat after checking out the views.

Some of the sandy areas are covered by the water at high tide, but regardless, you're in for some lovely views here.

Sunrises and sunsets are especially magical.
