Nestled along the Arizona-California border, Topock Gorge is a mountainous region on the Colorado River. You'll find it between Interstate 40 and Lake Havasu.
The gorge is only about 35 miles from Lake Havasu City. Its proximity to Route 66 also makes it a perfect addition to a scenic drive on the Mother Road.
On either side of the gorge, jagged cliffs reach for the sky, forming the most unique shapes imaginable.
Part of the Havasu National Wildlife Refuge, the gorge is extremely remote. Even the most ardent Arizona nature lovers don't know it exists!
From boating to kayaking, this remote alcove is ideal for watersports.
The waters here are calm, with no rapids and a light current, so beginners have nothing to worry about.
To access the gorge, you can either head upstream from the Lake Havasu area or downstream from the Topock Gorge Marina.
You can essentially create your own adventure, paddling for as long as you'd like before turning back. There are no tour guides or rules!
This is Havasu National Wildlife Refuge, which protects 30 miles of the Colorado River (including Topock Gorge).
In addition to its breathtaking natural scenery, this area is also a premier birding destination. Over 300 species - both native and migratory - can be spotted at any given time.
